You may not know it but red hair dye requires some of the most highest maintenance of any hair dye! The first day you dye your hair it will look really nice and shiny, great! But the first time you step into the shower and wash your hair, you’ll notice how much dye is coming out. No your head isn’t bleeding, it’s the red hair dye!
Over time, the more you wash your hair, more and more dye will come out. It will get to a point where no more will come out, but by this stage it won’t look as shiny or red as it first was. All hair dyes might wash out to a certain extent but it seems to be particularly bad with red dyes.
Fortunately there are products available to upkeep the color and shine. Red hair specific conditioners are available which will help to maintain the redness of your hair even if some dye should come out, using products like this should help a lot. It’s also good for your hair as dying it can cause damage.
If you don’t look after your red hair properly after it’s been dyed you’ll likely end up with hair that isn’t just one color anymore. Sounds strange but what will happen is there will be parts of your hair where the dye has faded / washed away more than others, it’s not likely to be massively noticeable but it won’t look the same as when you first dyed it.
Something to remember is to be careful if you go to sleep with wet hair after you’ve dyed it. If you do, don’t be surprised if the pillow and sheets are stained red!
